Inspired by Well-Being

Social-emotional learning is integrated throughout our classrooms and campus life, introduced in age-appropriate ways. Students are inspired by yoga, mindfulness, mixed-age social interactions, experiences in nature, free play, and collaborative projects—all designed to support a healthy mind and body.

Early social-emotional skills are linked to how socially, emotionally, academically, and professionally skilled we become later in life.

With increased self-awareness of our emotional and social lives, and understanding of the brain’s structure and function, the positive effects of adolescence can be harnessed.

Fitness & Wellness

Our Fitness & Wellness Center offers a variety of wellness classes, including yoga and meditation in a quiet, dedicated space. All students participate in either creative movement, physical education, wellness classes, or athletics, ensuring every student engages in regular physical activity and develops habits for a healthy lifestyle.

Lower School

Alongside core academics, our youngest learners explore friendships, kindness, teamwork, and community. Students balance quiet reflection with movement through daily meditation, yoga in the Community Room, and hands-on learning in our campus nursery. These experiences inspire confidence, focus, and connection from an early age.

Middle School

Middle School students participate in weekly Life & Study Skills classes, exploring self-awareness, personal values, communication, empathy, diversity, conflict resolution, mindfulness, and community service. Through experiential activities and small group discussions, students are inspired by the opportunities and challenges of adolescence and the ways their developing brains shape decision-making and growth.

Upper School

Our Ninth Grade Seminar builds on earlier lessons in social and emotional learning. Students meet weekly to explore team building, decision making, healthy choices, time management, self-care, injury prevention, and peer mentoring. Freshman students partner with sixth graders in community-based activities, inspired by the pride and responsibility that come from mentoring younger students.

Throughout the year, our school nurse and counselor collaborate with teachers to provide guidance, training, and programming that address health, wellness, and public health awareness for all students.

Advisory Program

Close faculty-student connections are a hallmark of NYA. Middle and Upper School students meet regularly with advisors in small groups to discuss relevant social and school topics. Advisors provide guidance on self-advocacy, goal setting, and managing schedules, inspiring students to reflect, grow, and take responsibility for their learning and well-being.

Health Services Staff

Our Health Services Coordinator and School Counselor work together to support the health and social and emotional needs of students, facilitate faculty professional development, and guide wellness programming.
