NYA Expands Boarding Program and Announces Additional Availability for Fall 2026
Yarmouth, Maine — North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) announced today that its boarding program expansion is progressing ahead of schedule, creating approximately 15 additional boarding spaces making 50 total spaces now available for fall 2026 enrollment. This development presents an opportunity to enroll an additional number of highly qualified domestic and international students who are seeking a distinctive New England boarding experience.
Located on a 20+ acre coastal campus in Yarmouth, Maine—just 10 minutes from Portland and two hours from Boston—NYA offers a rare combination of safety, sophistication, and access. The Academy’s historic campus blends the tradition of a premier New England preparatory school with exceptional modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art science center, ice arena, and fitness and wellness center.
NYA’s residential life experience is designed for independence, comfort, and connection. Academically, NYA provides a deeply engaging college-preparatory program rooted in seminar-style instruction, honors and AP coursework, independent study opportunities, and seven Diplomas with Distinction. Signature academic offerings include the Kauffmann Program for Environmental Writing and Wilderness Exploration, the senior speech, and financial literacy curriculum. Recognized as an AP Platinum School for the past three years, NYA prepares graduates exceptionally well for competitive colleges and universities.
In addition, NYA is proud to introduce a new Music Study Program, expanding opportunities for students pursuing advanced learning and performance in music within a challenging academic setting. This addition strengthens NYA’s commitment to providing pathways for students with diverse talents and aspirations in the arts.
NYA’s “right-sized” community offers a distinctive balance: the breadth of opportunity found at leading independent schools combined with the personalized attention often unavailable at larger institutions. Through dedicated advising, close faculty mentorship, and expert college counseling, students are known, supported, and challenged to achieve at the highest levels.
Beyond academics, students engage in a wide range of experiences including 24 varsity athletic teams (NEPSAC ice hockey), robotics, visual and performing arts, outdoor leadership, and other enrichment programs that foster confidence, leadership.
To support the expansion of the boarding program, NYA is also pleased to offer up to seven Head of School Boarding Scholars, each receiving a $10,000 renewable scholarship for exceptional students entering grades 9–11.
NYA welcomes recommendations of strong candidates and is prepared to review applications on an expedited basis. The Academy offers both a seven-and five-day boarding experience.
