3X A.P. Platinum School
College Board announced for the third year running that North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) has been named to the 2025 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning PLATINUM distinction.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
86% of NYA seniors took at least one AP Exam during high school, 70% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 37% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams.
NYA offers 18 AP courses taught by 13 different faculty members.
Olivia Hamilton ’25 took extensive AP classes while attending NYA. She now attends Tufts University and attributes her smooth transition into college academics in part to NYA’s AP program. “Taking AP classes at NYA enabled me to challenge myself as I progressed through the Upper School while simultaneously diving deeper into topics that I enjoyed,” said Hamilton, “I believe that my ability to manage my time, synthesize information, and write effectively stems largely from my time in AP classes. Having these skills in my academic toolkit has been extremely helpful as I’ve been navigating my first year of college. I was able to transfer credits and check required classes off my list, which allowed me to focus on new and different classes available to me. Overall, I’m grateful for the strong academic foundation that I was able to build at NYA that made my transition to college level work much easier.”
“Our AP course offerings provide gateways for our students to further their development of analytical and creative thinking, sophistication in writing and speaking, and an appreciation for problem solving – all skills that are prioritized in NYA’s mission,” said Head of Upper School Eric Austin. “The academic opportunities for students at NYA align with many of the finest and most reputable independent schools across the country. The AP program is internationally recognized and respected by colleges and universities for its pace and rigor and for the preparation it affords for success in higher education.”
“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, earn college credit and placement, and build professional career skills they can use no matter what path they choose after high school,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program at College Board. “Congratulations to this year’s AP School Honor Roll recipients for proving it’s possible to expand participation in these rigorous courses and still drive strong performance.”
