NYA will celebrate Halloween a few days early this year to accommodate parent-teacher conferences:

Yarmouth, Maine, October 16, 2025:  At North Yarmouth Academy (NYA), Halloween isn’t just another day on the calendar—it’s a cherished tradition. With school colors of orange and black, it’s only fitting that NYA goes all-in on this spirited holiday, as it has for generations.

Halloween at NYA is a day filled with creativity, community, and plenty of fun (and yes, a bit of candy too). While many schools restrict costumes, NYA embraces them wholeheartedly. Students, faculty, staff, and even parents join in, filling classrooms with inventive, often homemade costumes. Entire departments collaborate on secret themed group reveals, adding an element of anticipation and surprise.

Classes continue as usual, but the day’s schedule is adjusted to make room for one of NYA’s favorite traditions: the Halloween parade. The atmosphere across campus is electric—hallways buzz with excitement and laughter as the celebration unfolds.

During morning break (10:15-10:25), Lower School students parade around the quad outside the Middle School building (or inside the Middle School if the weather isn’t good), proudly displaying their costumes to the delight of older students, faculty, and staff.

The festivities culminate in a grade 1 and up parade in the gymnasium, where every student has a chance to show off their costume. The procession moves grade by grade, with prizes awarded in categories such as “Funniest,” “Scariest,” and “Best Group.” The Middle and Upper School Student Executive Council serves as the judging panel, ensuring a fair—and always entertaining—competition.

For the NYA community, Halloween is more than just dress-up. It’s a joyful celebration of creativity, camaraderie, and school spirit.
