NYA to Host Fundraiser to Support Jordan Haskell ’11 Recovery

On Friday, August 1, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., NYA will host an open skate followed by a pick-up hockey game at the Travis Roy ’94 Arena to benefit Jordan Haskell ’11 and his family. In May of this year, Haskell was in a catastrophic water accident that resulted in a severe spinal cord injury, causing paralysis.

A 2011 graduate of NYA, Jordan earned four varsity letters during his time as a student. He played forward and defense for the Panthers boys hockey team and was also a member of the baseball and soccer teams. After graduation, he went on to play hockey for Hobart William Smith College and later made his professional hockey debut with the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals. Now a husband and father of two young children, Jordan, who lives in Texas, is on the long, intensive, and life-changing journey of rehabilitation.

Funds raised will help the Haskell’s family with costs associated with family travel with the children from Texas to Denver. You may donate when you arrive at the door or register and donate in advance by visiting the event page.  Please use this link if you are unable to attend and want to help.

All NYA alumni and their families, students, faculty, staff, friends of the Haskell family, and the public are invited to skate. Helmets must be worn, and no sticks or pucks are permitted until the pick-up game occurring between 7pm-8pm (the third and final hour).  Skating is NOT required! It’s also a great chance to reconnect with old friends (parents and children). Light refreshments will be provided. A donation of $30 for adults and $20 for students and children is suggested, however any amount is appreciated.

Schedule:

  • 5:00pm – 7:00pm Open Skate and Light Refreshments (Helmets must be worn, and no sticks or pucks are permitted)
  • 7:00pm – 8:00pm Pick-up Game (Full equipment required, no contact, no checking)
  • There will also be tours of the new facility – come see the new, updated rink!

Come skate, come watch, come to support the Haskell family!
