John Fahey Named NYA’s New Director of Residential Life
Yarmouth, Maine, June 27, 2025: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) hired John Fahey as Director of Residential Life. He will be an integral part of shaping residential life for NYA’s new boarding program launching fall 2025. Fahey is a Massachusetts native with twenty-five years of boarding school experience. He comes to NYA from Indian Springs School in Pelham, Alabama, where he directed their residential life program. Prior to that, he was associate dean of boarding at Sandy Springs Friends School in Sandy Springs, Maryland. Fahey was also head dorm faculty and associate athletic director at Brooks School in Andover, Massachusetts. Along with teaching and coaching experience, John is a perfect fit to get NYA’s Residential Life program moving in the right direction.
“I have spent the past 15 summers in the Portland, Maine area at Camp Cedar and have always known this is where I wanted to end up permanently,” said Fahey.
When the opening for Director of Residential Life opened at NYA, I could not have been more excited. I am a passionate Boarding School Professional with over 25 years of experience. I am super energized to be at NYA and to create an environment in which our students feel safe, supported and have the opportunity for personal growth.
“I am thrilled to welcome John Fahey to North Yarmouth Academy as our new Director of Residential Life,” said NYA Head of School Ben Jackson. “John brings a wealth of experience in residential programs at independent schools and a deep, student-centered commitment. His energy, warmth, and leadership will be instrumental in shaping a vibrant and supportive boarding experience for our students as we launch this exciting new chapter at NYA.”
Fahey’s duties include scheduling study halls, dorm coverage, planning weekday and weekend activities, and supervising and supporting residential life staff.
Along with developing and implementing residential life policies and procedures, Fahey will work closely with upper school administration on student conduct and disciplinary matters and serve as a liaison between boarding and homestay students’ families.
The Office of Admission has also tapped Fahey as an Admission Associate to assist international students with F-1 Visa and travel needs.
