North Yarmouth Academy to Launch Boarding Program in 2025
New campus-adjacent property to house 20 students in 25/26 school year
Yarmouth, Maine, May 20, 2025: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) completed the purchase of 350 U.S. Route One, Yarmouth, today, allowing the Academy to add student and faculty housing adjacent to campus. This mission-driven initiative will enable the Academy to welcome students from around the country and the world. These students will support existing programs and create opportunities to develop new programs benefiting the entire NYA Upper School. The building will include space for four members of the faculty and staff and approximately 45 students. NYA will build out the facility to include a dining and recreational commons. The building will be ready for approximately 20 students, plus faculty and staff, for the fall of 2025.
For the last 25 years, NYA has welcomed students internationally and domestically to their homestay program, averaging 15-20 students per year during this time. Growth of the homestay program has been limited due to the number of homestay families available and the preference for on-campus housing.
For several years, NYA has explored various options for student and faculty housing, however, the ideal space never presented itself until now. Given its size, setup, proximity to campus and Yarmouth village, this facility has everything we need to deliver a dynamic student experience
- Ben Jackson, Head of School.
A boarding program will allow the Academy to provide opportunities for faculty to live on campus in today’s demanding housing market. The new facility will expand the
geographic reach of admissions for mission-appropriate students and support the growth of the international population.
“We will continue to offer the homestay option to our students,” Jackson said.
NYA was founded in 1814 (when today’s Yarmouth was part of North Yarmouth, MA) as a coeducational day school. In 1961, the school began a transition to a boarding school and operated as such until 1976. At that time, the school converted back to a coeducational day school.
“I am excited to be able to offer boarding once again at NYA, and I am eager to welcome domestic and international boarding students to our campus,” Jackson said.
In addition to the new boarding option, NYA has space in select grades for the 2025- 2026 school year. For information about the boarding and/or day program, please contact our admission office at [email protected] or 207-846-2376.
