NYA College Counseling Office Holds College Fair
Yarmouth, Maine, May 21, 2025: Twenty-seven colleges will attend North Yarmouth Academy’s (NYA) first-ever mini college fair on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the gym (154 Main St., Yarmouth). NYA’s Director of College Counseling Gretchen Bergill organized the fair with the students in mind. The scope and crowds of large fairs can be frustrating and overwhelming to students. They also may find it hard to get the attention of or spend enough time with college representatives they wish to speak with in such an environment. So Bergill brought the fair to campus, with much less noise.
“A college fair is a great way to kick off the college research process. Motivated students can learn about colleges that may not have previously been on their radar AND they have a chance to demonstrate their interest at the same time,” said Bergill. Current NYA Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Maine Coast Waldorf Juniors as well as parents are invited. Bergill provided the students all with a How-To guide to college fairs with everything from note-taking tips, to starting a conversation, to questions to ask. She designed the event to be as beneficial as possible to both students and college representatives alike.
Bergill said, “We hope that these first conversations will make the process feel less daunting and get students excited to learn more about the many opportunities they will have as college students. For the college representatives, getting time to meet with more students than just those who make it to an individual fall college visit and seeing NYA in action helps them to get a better sense of what makes this place special.”
The list of visiting colleges is below.
