Just Keep Swimming
Yarmouth, Maine, April 9, 2025: When the Tuesday school day is done at North Yarmouth Academy’s (NYA) Merril Lower School, the thirteen elementary students that make up the After Care Program Swim Club board an NYA bus bound for the Casco Bay YMCA pool in Freeport. The newly formed Swim Club was started by Lower School Director of After Care Kristen Marsh who was looking for ways to better serve the program by partnering with the local community. She took inspiration from her daughter who loves to swim. She contacted the Aquatics Director at YMCA, Chris Tucci, and he helped set up a program and schedule. For an added fee, students can have instructed and free swim time every Tuesday through May 20.
We’ve been working really hard to increase our community partnerships for after care to give students more opportunities for enrichment programming and movement
-Marsh.
“We are currently running Mad Science, Swim Club, and this week yoga begins with our wonderful Miss Jess Smith!”
NYA Lower School families who need care after the school day ends can participate in the After Care program which runs daily until 5:00 p.m.
