NYA Chorus to Perform with Julia Gagnon ’20 and a Cast of American Idols

Yarmouth, Maine, September 24, 2024: American Idol star and North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) alumna, Julia Gagnon ’20 invited the NYA chorus to join her and a cast of American Idol contestants from the past season for an onstage performance at the Cross Insurance Arena in Bangor, Maine, on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. “Julia Gagnon: Little Things,” will feature Gagnon, her fiancée Nate Haven, and former Idols: Ajii, Jennifer Jeffries, Roman Collins, Quintavious Johnson, KBLOCKS, Kennedy Reid, and Imposter Syndrome. The evening is billed as a “journey through all genres.” The NYA chorus, combined with the neighboring Greely High School Chorus, will provide backup vocals on a couple of Julia’s favorite covers, “We Are the World, and “From Now On,” from The Greatest Showman.

Seniors Paxton Fogg (West Bath) and Genevieve Vaillancourt (Lewiston) were members of NYA’s Middle School choral ensembles when Gagnon was taking the Upper School stage at the Academy. “This concert is an exciting experience for all of us!” said Fogg. “I’m so grateful to be able to sing with so many talented individuals, and I know that this night will stay with me for the rest of my life.” Vaillancourt agreed, “All my life I’ve been a performer, but I’ve never had the experience of doing a concert at such scale with such amazing singers. I’m truly, extremely grateful for this opportunity to sing alongside all these wonderful people.”

The students have rehearsed with Gagnon, NYA Vocal Music & Theatre Arts Director Liz Rollins, and Greely Choral Director Sarah Bailey to prepare for this thrilling opportunity. “Julia has been so warm and generous with our students,” praised Rollins. “It is a gift for all of us to be invited to sing with her on this tremendous professional stage. The inspiration is contagious.”
