NYA Spring Concert 2021

NYA Spring Concert 2021

Welcome to the 2021 NYA Spring Concert!

Normally this line would be uttered shortly after 6:30 p.m. to let the audience know that it was time to begin, and that they would soon be hearing the sounds of the middle and upper school bands, choruses, or orchestras. Of course, this has not been a normal year. That has been obvious everywhere, from the masks on our faces to the new entrance/exit signs on the doors, but performing arts has felt it acutely. Performance is an integral part of music, but this year gathering large groups of people for a public performance was not feasible.

We are not giving up that easily, though, and for the past several weeks the students have been hard at work putting their pieces together for a virtual presentation. These videos represent a culmination 20-21 music-making, from the 5th Grade Band showing off their 6 weeks’ worth of progress, to the Steel Band giving their final performance of their high school career. These students have learned how to play with a mask on, how to keep up with a group when spaced 6 feet apart, how to perform when their only audience is a camera, and most importantly, how to continue to make music throughout it all.

Thank you, and enjoy the concert!

Thank You, Teachers!

We would like to recognize our music teachers who have worked all year under restrictive guidelines. Your ability to adapt and produce performances worthy of any stage deserves a standing ovation. You and your students should be very proud. We are.

THANK YOU,
Eli Gilbert (Jazz Band), Nora Krainis (Chorus), Ian Ramsey (Steel Band & Wind), and Linda Vaillancourt (Orchestra, Band, & Department Chair)
