Yarmouth, Maine, October 16, 2023: Maddy Prokopius ’24 (Falmouth) won the Class C State Girls Golf Championship on Monday, October 9 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, Maine. She posted sixteen over-par on the Arrowhead Course, holding off two competitors to claim the championship by one stroke. Prokopius joins 2005 and 2007 girls champion Kate Merrill ’09 in NYA golf history.
“This was a very unexpected and nice way to end my high school golf career. Last year, I was thrilled with placing second,” said Prokopius. “I came into the golf season this year with no expectations except to enjoy my senior year. The competition in Class C was excellent; I played against some very talented female competitors. Furthermore, I enjoyed the support and comradery of the team.”
“Maddy has represented NYA on the golf course with incredible poise, sportsmanship and talent,” said NYA Athletic Director Kelsy Ross. “She is the epitome of a student-athlete and to have her career capped as a State Champion is nothing short of impressive. We are incredibly proud of her!”
Maddy and her Panther teammates, Davis Gall ’24, Zach Leinwand ’25, and Nate Oney ’24 tied for fourth in the team standings.
