Yarmouth, Maine, May 5, 2020: Today, North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) announced a gift of $100,000 to support need-based student financial aid. This is the second gift in as many years from a generous anonymous family.
The $100,000 gift will be used to support both current-use financial aid ($25,000) and the North Yarmouth Academy Endowed Fund for Scholarship Assistance ($75,000), which provides need-based aid to deserving students.
“We are deeply grateful for this benefactor’s continued support, which ensures the most talented students, no matter their economic circumstances, will have the opportunity to benefit from an exceptional NYA education,” said Head of School, Ben Jackson. “At this time in particular, when we are receiving more requests for financial aid from current and incoming families as a result of the effects of COVID-19, gifts like this will help the Academy respond to families’ needs to the fullest extent possible.”
Each year, more than 40% of NYA families receive need-based financial aid. The Academy’s annual expenditure on financial aid represents a huge effort relative to its operating budget. Gifts to financial aid help NYA attract and retain high-caliber students.
“Our family continues to support financial aid because we do not want economic barriers to prevent the best and brightest from attending NYA,” said the donors.
The Academy will commit all proceeds from its upcoming Soirée to meet current and incoming families’ need for financial aid and to ensure faculty have the resources they need to be successful today and into the coming academic year. The 36th Annual Soirée will take place virtually on Friday, May 15.
North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational school for toddlers to students in grade twelve with an enrollment of over 360 students. Since 1814, NYA has fostered integrity, character, and intellect in its students.
