Dear Families,
Just two weeks from today, the 48 members of the class of 2022 will be graduating. We will miss this amazing group of students, but we are excited about to learn about their next adventures. They will have a busy final few weeks at school working on projects and attending the following events:
- Wednesday, June 1: Senior lunch and NYA Commencement practice, 12:00 p.m.
- Thursday, June 2: Senior dinner, event tent-Denney Field, 6:30 p.m.
- Sunday, June 5: NYA Commencement, event tent-Denney Field, 11:00 a.m.
- Monday, June 6: NYA Athletic Recognition, NYA gymnasium, 6:00 p.m.
Congratulations to this talented group of seniors. I look forward to recognizing them on June 5. The class of 2022 will celebrate their commencement in-person on Sunday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m. We will also offer a livestream of the event for anyone who would like to attend virtually through this link:

I encourage you to share this with out of town family and friends.
All are welcome to join us on Thursday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. outside the main entrance of NYA’s Travis Roy Arena for a Groundbreaking Celebration for the construction of the reimagined Travis Roy Arena and Fitness & Wellness Center. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please register here. For questions or comments, please email Crystal Gordon.
We hope you can join the NYA community for the annual Soirée on Friday, June 3, under the event tent on Denney Field. It’s not too late to register online. Bid on the amazing class baskets and other silent auction items! There will be a live auction, paddle raise to support fitness and wellness, cocktails and food stations from Dandelion Catering, and live music. It is always a fun night, and you don’t want to miss it! For questions, please contact Crystal Gordon (207-847-5401). See you there!
In addition to celebrating our seniors, we will also recognize our eighth graders at Middle School recognition evening on May 25. Ms. Markonish shared details of this event with the Middle School community. The evening highlights the achievements of all Middle School students and includes musical performances from grades five through eight, community awards, the eighth grade speech, awarding of eighth grade certificates, and a slide show.
*MISSION SPOTLIGHT*
As part of their unit on farming, Mr. E’s third and fourth graders visited Wolfe’s Neck Farm to study organic farming. They learned about seeds, compost, greenhouses, and the art of organic farming. They finished up by doing their own planting. It was a beautiful day on the farm and a terrific hands-on experience for the farmers.
Congratulations to Hans-Erik Jerosch and Madeleine Vaillancourt who performed as part of the All-State Music Festival this weekend. These two students were selected after rigorous statewide auditions this past fall, and they spent three days in Orono rehearsing and performing. This is the first in-person All-State Festival since 2019. After two festivals of meeting online and recording alone for a virtual ensemble, it was good to be back with talented high school musicians from all over Maine.
The final week of the Middle School activity season is upon us. We are eager for the return of the in-person Middle School Spring Season Celebration on Thursday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m. in Curtis Gymnasium. Congratulations to everyone who helped make the return of competitive Middle School sports a success this spring!
The Upper School spring seasons are cruising along! Be sure to cheer on the Panthers at the remaining home events, and be on the lookout for tournament action in early June. In case you missed it, “congratulations” to our NYA-MCW girls outdoor track and field team who won the MAISAD Championships, and to the boys team for finishing as the runners up in last weekend’s championship event! Additionally, Aidan Farion ’23 and Nate Oney ’24 won the Western Maine Conference boys’ doubles tennis event last weekend. Ethan Schutz ’23 and Colin Roderick ’23 won the consolation bracket, too. We are so proud of these championship efforts!
Parents of seniors are encouraged to check in with them to make sure they have completed the surveys on NYA chenilles and signing day plans. These surveys were emailed to the class of 2022 from the NYA Athletic Office and take just a few minutes to complete.
All Upper School families should mark their calendars for the return of the in-person Upper School Athletic Recognition evening scheduled for Monday, June 6, at 6:00 p.m. This event will take place in Curtis Gym and includes a special Signing Ceremony for our class of 2022 student-athletes planning to continue their playing careers next year. We cannot wait to see you all and celebrate a season’s worth of successes.
Seniors are counting down the days to commencement, and their parents would like to share an opportunity to support NYA’s Project Graduation 2022. Brickyard Hollow in Yarmouth is hosting a community night to benefit NYA’s Project Graduation. They will donate 5% of sales from dine-in or take-out on Tuesday, May 24, between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Please support our seniors and enjoy a great meal from Brickyard Hollow! Please note, this is Brickyard’s Yarmouth location only.
If you have not already done so, please access your Magnus Health SMR account through your Family Web portal. You will access the account via the button titled “Magnus Health Portal.” We ask that you complete the required health information and all forms within your Magnus Health SMR account for each child attending North Yarmouth Academy no later than June 15, 2022. This is a new system for NYA which will help us streamline the form process. You will receive some reminders about our new system along the way.
Friday, May 27 is the last day of classes for the Middle and Upper Schools, with end of year tests and exams scheduled the following week. The schedule will be shortened, and we will end the day with a relaxing afternoon for Middle and Upper School students including a special lunch, games, and yearbook signing for students in grades five through twelve. The Make-A-Wish Club will also have a Tiki “Bar” to purchase snacks, treats, and fun drinks. Events will wrap up at 2:00 p.m., and students will be ready for pick-up immediately afterward.
From the Parents’ Association: The Yarmouth Clam Festival is back, baby! The booth hosted by the NYA Parents’ Association needs your help! After a two year hiatus, the town of Yarmouth will be holding the 55th annual event from July 15-17. Wrangle some fellow parents, older students, or sports team members, and sign up to scoop ice cream and pop popcorn. Work the booth to help support student and faculty grant requests and faculty and staff appreciation. It is lots of fun, and no experience is necessary! Please sign up here. Please direct all inquiries to Jess Lynch, ’22-’23 Parents’ Association President and Clam Festival Chair.
