Lorena Coffin Returns to Head NYA Girls Tennis

North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is excited to welcome Lorena Coffin ‘P12 back to the NYA courts to lead the varsity girls tennis team. An alumni parent, Coach Coffin coached girls tennis at NYA from 2007-2016. She has a deep admiration for the Academy’s mission and the strong work ethic and self-confidence it instills in its students.

Coffin played four seasons of division III tennis at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After graduation, she taught the sport in summer recreation programs, and coached high school tennis—first at Morse High School in Bath and later at NYA. She continues to play competitively in USTA team leagues.

Coffin asks players to identify their own individual strengths to use as transitional skills they can bring to their tennis game. She believes this philosophy, along with dedication and teamwork, is what led the NYA girls tennis program to five Class C State Championships in ten years as well as to having numerous players recognized as members of WMC All-Conference teams. “I greatly enjoy tennis and coaching,” said Coffin. “I want my players to also enjoy the sport and the benefits of friendship, goal-setting, resiliency, and sense of accomplishment that comes along with it.”

“The opportunity to welcome Coach Coffin back to our NYA girls tennis program is fantastic,” said NYA Athletic Director, Kelsy Ross. “Her deep understanding of our community is a perfect complement to her tennis knowledge. She is an educator and a mentor, who will not only push our student-athletes in their tennis endeavors, but support them in their growth on and off the court. We’re excited to have her at the helm!”

North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational school for toddlers to students in grade twelve with an enrollment of over 360 students.
