Julia Gagnon ’20 Auditions for American Idol, Watch Party 3/24

Julia Gagnon Sister Act 2020Yarmouth, Maine, March 18, 2024: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) alumna, Julia Gagnon ’20, will be on campus for an American Idol watch party on Sunday, March 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., ahead of her Idol audition. The show begins at 8:00. Members of the NYA community will gather in the Bicentennial Learning Commons (148 Main Street, Yarmouth, door under the Cutter Gymnasium sign) beginning at 7:00 p.m. to make signs, see Julia, and then watch the show. Video and photos from the party will be sent to the show for possible use on a future broadcast.

Julia (which is her middle name, she went by Elizabeth while at NYA) has been busy since she graduated from NYA. She earned a degree in history early from Skidmore College and plans to attend law school at USM. She grew up in Cumberland and currently lives in Freeport.

Julia came to NYA as a fifth grader and was “musically quiet” at first said Nora Krainis, Julia’s chorus and theater director. “She refused to sing until the end of fifth grade,” remembers Nora. Shannon Gallagher, Julia’s fifth grade teacher, recalls that she shared her incredible voice in earnest for the first time during a talent show on the class overnight schooner trip that spring. “It really was quite an amazing revelation when we heard her sing on the boat,” remembers Shannon.

She was involved in music and drama the rest of her time at NYA. “Julia has a supernatural gift when it comes to interpreting a song. She gets it. She gets everything about it. And she puts all that into her delivery and stuns her audiences. Which in turn makes Julia a gift to us,” explains Nora.

This past August, Julia participated in Central Maine Idol, a contest like American Idol, where she won the title and the $10,000 prize. That began her journey to American Idol.
