Yarmouth, Maine, December 13, 2022: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) senior soccer standout Angel Huntsman (Harpswell) has been named an All-American soccer player. This is one of the highest athletic awards in the country and is an incredible accomplishment for any student-athlete, especially from a school of NYA’s size. She is one of three high school athletes from Maine to be named All-American.
Angel was also selected as the 2022 Peter Brawn Memorial Award winner. This award is a recognition by the Western Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials for outstanding leadership, ability, and sporting behavior on the soccer field. Additionally, she was recently nominated as the Maine State Gatorade Player of the Year. The recipient will be announced in June.

NYA Athletic Director, Kelsy Ross says, “Our girls soccer program has been in the spotlight over the last four years, and Angel played a major role in that run. She is one of the most gifted athletes in our school’s history, and certainly within the state of Maine. Her list of soccer accolades should remind us that, regardless of school classification, physical size, or access to playing club sports, you can work hard and be successful. Angel is a rare athlete, and we are incredibly proud of the recognitions she received this past fall.”
Angel was a tri-captain of the 2022 undefeated NYA Girls Varsity Soccer Team and a force on the pitch all four years of high school. Even with an abbreviated COVID season her sophomore year, she put up 115 career points (77 goals – 38 assists) for the Panthers.
Coach Ricky Doyon explains, “Angel is a remarkable athlete and person. She is motivated and driven by competition. This was most undoubtedly evident this soccer season, and it can be said for all sports she plays. Angel’s soccer skills and IQ is top-notch. She can play collegiate soccer almost anywhere she wants. Being named All-American (just one of three players in Maine) is impressive and demonstrates how talented she is. She sets the bar for upcoming soccer players. She will be missed by her soccer teammates and coaches, and it won’t be easy to fill her shoes, but there will be motivated players who will try to meet the standards she has set. I will miss Angel for her play and, most importantly, the great young lady she has grown to be. I am proud to say that I was her soccer coach for four years. Remember her name; there is more success coming her way.”
