Dear NYA Families,
I am writing to let you know that a non-NYA student who practices at NYA’s Travis Roy Arena has tested positive for COVID-19. The athlete’s team has contacted the CDC to initiate the standard investigation and contact tracing protocols. Although this case is not directly related to NYA, members of our school community who use the rink potentially had exposure to this individual. These families have been notified. While the CDC would not necessarily recommend any further action for these students, out of an abundance of caution, NYA has taken steps to ensure they are tested prior to returning to campus.
This case does not require notification of our school community per CDC guidelines, and it is not meant to alarm anyone. This is simply a reflection of our desire to be as transparent as possible with our families. We will continue to take this situation seriously and err on the side of caution when addressing issues related to COVID-19.
As a reminder, we have been instituting the following steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Daily screenings of our students
- Wearing face coverings
- Practicing social distancing
- Frequent hand washing
- Regular cleaning and disinfecting of facilities
- With respect to NYA’s Travis Roy Arena, protocols are in place to fully disinfect the facility following each use

Sincerely,
Ben Jackson
Head of School
