Dear Families,
As circumstances continue to evolve during the COVID-19 pandemic, I want you all to be aware that we are following the situation very closely during our school’s break. Decisions at NYA will be guided by the best interests of our school community and the safety of our students, families, and faculty/staff. As we stated in prior communications, we are closely following the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html). We also have substantial resources from our member organization, the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Finally, we are in contact with area private and public schools and are following any actions or recommendations from the Maine Department of Education. In addition to informing families of travel advisories, prior communications from NYA shared that the Academy is reviewing remote learning capabilities in the event of a school closure. We are continuing with this planning to avoid interruptions.
While following local, national, and international events, the administrative team is meeting over the next week to continue to review NYA’s planning and response. While post break decisions have not been made, I want you to know we are taking this situation seriously and will continue to follow events closely. Prior to the conclusion of spring break, we will update families with any important information, including updated travel restrictions.
We continue to think of the safety of all of our families and those whose lives have already been impacted by this crisis. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
Sincerely,
Ben Jackson
Head of School
