June 3, 2020: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is pleased to announce the Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony will take place as originally scheduled on Sunday, June 7, 2020. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the front lawn of the Curtis Building, 148 Main Street, Yarmouth.
In compliance with state regulations, a maximum of 50 people will attend the ceremony in person. Thus, the 40 graduates and essential faculty and staff will attend. Eight students who live out of state or abroad will attend virtually. Flat screen televisions will be mounted on either side of the stage with four students live on each screen. Parents of the graduates may view the ceremony from their vehicles, and family photos will be taken, one at a time, after the program.
Commencement will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the North Yarmouth Academy Facebook page. The video will also be saved on the page to view later. A separate video of the event will be sent to families, also.
“We are extremely proud of this class,” said NYA Head of School, Ben Jackson. “COVID-19 has made their spring memorable, but it in no way defines their contributions as a class or as individuals. They are a resilient group and have provided steady leadership for our community.” NYA’s senior class and their families will celebrate at the Saco Drive-In with a special video and pizza dinner this evening.
North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational school for toddlers to students in grade twelve with an enrollment of over 360 students. Since 1814, NYA has fostered integrity, character, and intellect in its students. For more information, please contact NYA at 207-847-5423 or information@nya.org.
