New Leadership for North Yarmouth Academy Girls Ice Hockey

North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mallory Michaeles as the Associate Athletic Director and Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Coach. Coach Michaeles will head the girls ice hockey program, part of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), and assist in the NYA Athletic Department. She officially begins on July 1, 2020.

Michaeles comes to NYA from Bowdoin College, where she volunteered as an assistant coach of women’s hockey for the past two years. Prior to that, she spent nine years at Colby College, three as the head coach of women’s hockey, four as the assistant, and she also worked in the Colby alumni office. Prior to returning to Maine, she was an assistant coach at Williams College and UMass Boston. She began her career at New Hampton School in New Hampshire as a coach and teacher. She played varsity hockey as a student at Colby.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to join the NYA community. It was clear during the interview process that the people of NYA care deeply about developing young people and building relationships, which is a cornerstone of my coaching beliefs,” explained Michaeles. NYA Athletic Director, Kelsy Ross said, “We are beyond excited to welcome Coach Michaeles and her family to North Yarmouth Academy. In what was a large and competitive applicant pool, Coach Michaeles rose to the top because of her impressive and consistent commitment to the development of student-athletes. Her expertise in the game of hockey, coupled with her ability to connect with students, will guide the continued growth of our NYA Girls Hockey Program. Her experiences in youth programming, leadership development, and event management will be invaluable in her Associate Athletic Director Role. We cannot wait to begin collaborating with Coach Michaeles as we plan for the 2020-2021 academic year and seasons!”

“We are very excited for Mallory to join the NYA athletics department and community,” said NYA Head of School Ben Jackson. “Her impressive experience with women’s hockey and athletics will be a great asset to the Academy and program, but we are most impressed with her commitment and track record supporting the development of young people”

Coach Michaeles lives in Brunswick with her husband and children, ages four and two.
