Character & Community

Yarmouth, Maine, November 21, 2023: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) Director of Character and Community, Betsy Tomlinson, and student leadership have been busy supporting some recent initiatives related to the holidays:

Socktober:
The Upper School Community Engagement and Social Advocacy Council led by juniors, Olivia Hamilton and Hailey Rickett, sponsored “Socktober” – a drive to collect new socks for Maine Needs. The Middle School won a free Dress Down Day by bringing in 174 pairs of socks. The Socktober Challenge has been extended to see if the Upper School can match that total! Bring new socks before Winter Break and know you’re helping to warm someone who is experiencing homelessness.

Pies for Root Cellar:
Sophomore Breton Wiessner organized a drive to bake pies for the Root Cellar. The NYA Community baked 33 pies. Breton, and sophomores Finn Mahoney, Cam Veitch, and Ava Wilkinson, and seniors Gabe Leclerc and James Brogan-Provencher all volunteered at the Root Cellar last Saturday to deliver the pies and help organize the Thanksgiving food boxes for delivery in Lewiston.

Girls on the Run Volunteers:
Olivia Hamilton, Hadley Smith, and Daicey Spiers, NYA parent Tammy Hamilton, and Betsy Tomlinson volunteered at the Girls on the Run 5K fun zone on Sunday, November 12. The NYA group painted faces and gave out hundreds of high fives as the girls completed their 5K celebration run.

Yarmouth Food Pantry:
Thanks to all who supported the food drive prior to break to benefit the Yarmouth Food Pantry. As always, this is a great success and very much appreciated by the pantry.
