Learn More About NYA!

Did you know?

NYA requires students in grade six through twelve to participate in an after school activity each season. In addition to team sports, students may select activities like theater and music.

Our youngest Lower School students participate in Creative Movement classes, and beginning in the primary grades, our Lower School students participate in Physical Education class in addition to recess in our playground. In the winter months, students in Pre-K through grade four take ice skating lessons at NYA”s Travis Roy Ice Arena as part of their PE class.

OUR ATHLETICS & ACTIVITY OFFERINGS

Do you participate in a sport that is not currently offered at NYA? That might be okay through our Middle and Upper School Waiver option.

NW Karate champion

Although ideally, we would like you to be part of an NYA team to experience the camaraderie of practicing, competing, and celebrating with your classmates, we understand that some students compete in other activities that NYA does not offer.

Waivers for Middle and Upper School Students

Waivers may be requested, completed, and submitted to the Director of Athletics at least one month in advance of any season. The athletic waiver activity must be for an activity that NYA does not offer throughout the year. The Activity must meet a clear set of objectives, outlined by the Athletics Department, including documented hourly documentation, supervision, and competitive elements.

Senior Waiver (fall, winter, spring)

The Senior Waiver may be requested by students for any one activity season in their senior year. Senior Waivers should be requested, completed, and submitted to the Director of Athletics at least one month in advance of any season. These waivers are reserved for NYA seniors in good standing with the Athletics Department and Activity requirement only and are considered non-active.
