Yarmouth, Maine, May 13, 2022: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) lacrosse is dominated by alumni leadership this season. Both the boys and girls Upper School lacrosse teams are coached solely by NYA alums. Last year, NYA welcomed Molly Moss Stokes ’05 as the girls varsity lacrosse coach, and in 2020, Peter Gerrity ’05 returned as the boys varsity lacrosse coach. We are also pleased to have Izzy Munro ’15 as the JV girls coach, Abigail Moss Henderson ’09 as an assistant for the girls varsity team, and Pat Alberding ’21 assisting Coach Gerrity.
It is wonderful to see these alums back on campus contributing to the growth of the current student-athletes. “I’m thrilled to be back at NYA coaching boys lacrosse again. The program means a lot to me and my family. My three siblings all played at NYA, and we have fond memories of the school and the program. Both the boys and girls programs have a history of success, and I’m proud and excited to continue that legacy,” said Coach Peter Gerrity.
When asked what it was like to be back on the field as a coach, Stokes exclaimed, “It has been very fun to be back on campus and working with a wonderful group of student-athletes. NYA athletics were a big part of my experience at the school, and it is exciting to see the teams still competing at a high level.”
NYA strives to be a place that graduates can call home, and by the looks of it, through the lacrosse teams, many alumni eventually find their way back, whether it be seventeen years after graduating or just one. “Bringing alumni back to lead the programs they were a part of as NYA student-athletes is special. Our lacrosse coaches have a deep knowledge of the tradition, balance, and importance associated with putting on a Panther jersey. We have loved having this group of alumni back and are super proud of the leadership they’re displaying,” said NYA Athletic Director, Kelsy Ross.
Coming up on Saturday, June 4, NYA is hosting an alumni lacrosse game on NYA’s Lewis Field at 10:00 a.m. for girls, 11:00 a.m. for boys, and there will be a barbeque under the tent on Denny Field following the boys game at noon. The event is open to all NYA alumni. To register, visit NYA’s RSVP page. For any questions regarding the game, contact Crystal Gordon (207-847-5401).
