North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is very excited to announce Michael Warde as the new director of boys hockey & development officer. In conjunction with program development and coaching boys varsity hockey, he will also support and work with the development team to secure the resources needed to sustain program activities and achieve organizational goals. A native of Rockport, MA, Coach Warde comes to NYA after five years as the director of hockey and head junior coach at Bridgton Academy (North Bridgton, ME). The fifteen years prior to his post with the BA Wolverines, he coached and recruited from high school to the NCAA Division I level. He held assistant coach and head recruiter positions with the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, University of Alabama-Huntsville, and Iona College (New Rochelle, NY).
“I would like to thank Head of School Ben Jackson, Director of Athletics Jack Hardy, and the search committee for extending this tremendous opportunity to be the head boys varsity hockey coach at North Yarmouth Academy,” said Warde. “During the interview process, it was quite apparent to me that their excitement and enthusiasm for NYA and the hockey program made this a compelling community for my family and me.”
Coach Warde was selected from a pool of over seventy candidates who expressed interest for the opening position. “The vetting and interview committees took this process extremely seriously,” said NYA Athletic Director Jack Hardy. “As the committees concluded their work, we were very excited to recommend Mike Warde to Head of School, Ben Jackson. Coach Warde is highly revered in the hockey community. We look forward to him bringing his experiences from coaching at the D1 level and Bridgton Academy to build upon our present success, and to be part of the next chapter of the great hockey tradition here at NYA.”
Coach Warde’s goals for the future of the NYA hockey program and the student athletes aim both down a path for success, in hockey and academics, “Ben [Jackson] and I had some great discussions throughout the process. It did not take long to realize we both share the same vision for this program, which is one that is built with sustainable momentum and pride. Our vision will inspire and energize our student-athletes to achieve more than they thought was possible on and off the ice through our passion, commitment, and integrity. Our culture will be driven by purpose, character, and teamwork to exceed our goals.”
