Summer Writer's Camp

About the program ...

Summer Writer's Camp is a writing enrichment program which provides small classroom and workshop instruction for students entering grades 6, 7 and 8. The program will investigate all stages of the creative writing process -- from the first idea to a finished piece. Students will learn how to organize their thoughts and polish their work. They will refine their individual writing "voices" through daily writing exercises that evolve from "inspirations" which include classroom and outside experiences. Constructive feedback through individual conferencing with the teacher will produce a strong, confident writer. At the end of each session, works will be published in a NYA Writer's Camp literary journal which will be titled by the students. Space is limited to 10 students per session.

About the instructor ...

The Writer's Camp instructor is Cathy von Brecht who is an alumni parent of NYA. She has more than 28 years of experience as a middle school language arts and writing teacher. She worked on Yarmouth's Writing Assessment team for 6 years and was one of its Team Leaders for 4.
