Leadership & Life Skills Camps

Leadership & Life Skills Camps

Leadership camps are designed to begin giving campers more of a sense of responsibility, self-confidence and a chance to practice their leadership skills. All programs are based on NYA’s beautiful campus and are instructed by staff with expertise in the specialty or by one of our partner organizations.

Full Day sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the options of FREE Before Care from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and FREE After Care from 3:00-5:30 p.m.

Half Day sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the option of FREE Before Care from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Campers should come each day with a lunch, two snacks, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Because we are so active each day, please be sure campers dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather (see Family Handbook for detailed packing list).

Before & After Care is a well-supervised and loosely structured time outside of the normal camp program time. With a camp session registration, this is offered FREE of charge as a courtesy to our campers and their families. Before Care runs from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and After Care runs from 3:00-5:30 p.m.

Choose to sign up for more than one week of camp and take advantage of our 10% multi-session discount!

Don’t miss our EARLY BIRD discount! Register by April 15, 2017 to save $25 per registration.

Please note that an $85 non-refundable deposit per camper, per session is due at the time of registration.

If your camper loves to be around younger children and has shown an interest in babysitting, this is the perfect camp! It’s designed for campers who are craving more responsibility and are ready to begin the transition from camper to camp staff member. Campers will participate in a curriculum designed by the national program Safe Sitter and will end the week with a certificate in safe babysitting. The camp includes training in skills like: safety, childcare, first aid and rescue, and life and business. There will also be plenty of time to interact with and practice skills as the CITs work with the campers in the Super Summer Day Camp (SSDC) group. This will be a fun session for campers to build their skills and work toward a future caring for children! Session also includes a trip to Maine Wildlife Park in Gray with the SSDC group.

Camp GOTR inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident through a variety of creative and interactive outlets. Each day, girls explore a life skills topic through physical activity, collaborative games and creative expression, including writing, acting and art. The program culminates with a celebratory event where families can share in the girls’ accomplishments by joining them in a one-mile fun run and a creative showcase of their original work from the program. Girls will gain skills to navigate their world, improve their health and confidence, make friends and have fun. The Camp GOTR curriculum will take place in the morning, with all full and half day campers. Campers who choose to stay the full day will join NYA’s Super Summer Day Camp for afternoon activities and games.
*Campers must be entering 3rd-5th grade for this camp session. To learn more about GOTR Maine, please visit their website at www.girlsontherunmaine.org.
