With permission from Music Theatre International, North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) presents Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” This musical is based on the 1991 Disney animated film with music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice. The movie was adapted into a stage musical which premiered on Broadway in 1994 and was later adapted into a full-length non-animated movie in 2017. NYA will perform the following show times:
- Friday, February 9, 6:30 p.m.
- Saturday, February 10, 2:00 p.m. AND 6:30 p.m.
“Beauty and the Beast” is a setting of an old fairy tale (“the tale as old as time”) centering around Belle, a beautiful girl from a small, provincial town who loves books and dreams of life beyond her village, and a Beast who is working desperately to undo a curse placed upon him and his servants.
The production features Elizabeth Gagnon ’20 (Belle) and Justin Guo ’18 (The Beast). Other roles are played by Rick Hilscher ’18 (Gaston); Kara Jensen ’18 (Lefou); Madeleine Vaillancourt ’22 (Lumiere); Abby King ’22 (Cogsworth); Jackie Ellsworth ’21 (Babette); Afton Morton ’20 (Mrs. Potts); Sydney Billings ’20 (Madame de la Grande Bouche); Brontë Doucette ’24 and Genevieve Vaillancourt ’25 (Chip); Spencer Barton ’20 (Maurice); Bronwen Ramsey-Brimberg ’20, Marina Piehl ’21, and Alex Markonish ’19 (Silly Girls); Hannah Gagne ’19 (Monsieur D’Arque); Elyse Baron ’21, Hongwei He ‘20, Haley Hegarty ’24, Bella Moulton ‘22, Clara Mulvihill ‘19, Ashley Ren ‘20, and Annie Sillin ’21 (Villagers and Enchanted Items). Evan Davis ’18 and Malcolm MacMahon ’21 lead the tech crew.
Tickets are $8.00 reserved through Heidi Lathrop (firstname.lastname@example.org). All performances will be held in the Safford Center at North Yarmouth Academy, 148 Main Street, Yarmouth. There is limited seating, so make your reservations early! All shows are open to the public.
