Portland Police Chief to Speak at NYA Commencement

North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is honored to have Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck as this year’s commencement speaker. Chief Sauschuck has served the City of Portland since 1997 when he began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer. He now leads a team of highly trained professional men and women committed to the department’s core values of leadership, integrity, and service. It is because of this commitment to community building and upholding a core value system synonymous with that of NYA that a senior class committee saw fit to select Chief Sauschuck.

“Being a Mainer, living and working just a few minutes down the road, was a major positive, allowing him to further connect with us through our common Maine background,” said NYA senior Dana Nichols. “In addition, his experiences in the Marines, MDEA, and the Portland Police Department will provide us with a strong message as we head out into the real world. Watching his TED talk regarding the opioid epidemic in Portland gave us an idea of how talented of a public speaker he is and the strength of a message he is capable of delivering. With all these things considered, in my mind, and ultimately in the minds of the seniors, he was the obvious choice to be our graduation speaker.”

NYA’s Commencement ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 on the Curtis front lawn (148 Main Street, Yarmouth, ME). In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church (116 Main Street, Yarmouth, ME). Commencement is open to the public.
