Susan Myer Riley will exhibit a new body of work in the Curtis Gallery (148 Main Street, Yarmouth) at North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) from August 30 until October 31, 2012. The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, August 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit will be open to the public during regular school hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Myer Riley (formerly known as Myer Fahlgren) was Chair of the Fine Arts Department and the Upper School Visual Arts Teacher at NYA for 22 years. She now works in her studio in Yarmouth, Maine. Myer Riley began collecting rocks, pebbles and stones as a young girl on the beaches of southern Maine, and her recent oil paintings reflect her continuing passion for things found along the New England coast.
Myer Riley travels to Boston regularly to paint with one of her former students, Travis Roy. Roy, who was paralyzed in a hockey accident while playing for Boston University, creates his artwork by painting with his mouth. Roy will also be showing several of his recent paintings at NYA and selling greeting cards that feature his work.
Donations from the exhibit will benefit The Travis Roy Foundation, established in 1997 to “Help Others Move Forward,” and to the NYA Arts Department.
