I talk to lots of animals around my house: bears, panthers, gators, wild hogs, owls, coyotes, etc. I love to barbecue every day: ribs, steak, shrimp, chicken, you name it, I cook it. Still love my music and happy times. I would like to say 'hi' to Faith, Ross, Tom, Russ, Lynn, Murf, Bruce, Art, Susie, Lisa and everyone else. Be positive: life is short; eat drink and be merry! I searched & searched for the 'right' position and this one was the perfect fit for me! I recruit, screen, train & place Volunteers in Police Service for the Auburn, Lewiston and Lisbon Police Departments and the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Department. Kind of a huge prospect, but also thrilling. VIPS is a national program that is running in almost 2,000 law enforcement agencies across America, and I'm so proud to serve my community in this way. Volunteering has been a big part of my life ever since I was on the Social Service Committee with Mrs. MacArthur at NYA(!) and I continue to care deeply for and understand the importance of community volunteers. Jackie Young '99
June 2008
Jackie "Delivered a healthy baby girl, Jordan Arran Young, on May 16th at 10:45am. Classically, I was in denial right up until we had to go to the hospital - I worked until 9:30pm on May 15th, and was teaching through the early contractions. Turns out that regardless of denial, there really was a 7-1/2 lb baby in there after all. Hard to believe that the powers that be are letting me raise a child, isn't it? I live in perpetual fear that someone will discover that I am only masquerading as an adult, and they'll make me give back all my grown-up stuff. Thankfully, Peter is a mature and reasonable individual, so that's a point in my favor. Anyway, I'm sending along a picture of Jordan, whom Peter & I think is pretty cute. If anyone is around in the general southern Maine vicinity, I'd love to have a little adult interaction - speaking in actual words would be nice. Drop me a line! Cheers, Jackie."

Her shoulder was rebuilt through surgery in August 2007 and she struggled to get back to throwing this Spring season. She mentored the younger throwers in the shot put, discus, and javelin throughout the season and it was on that basis that she was nominated.
