February 1, 2010, Yarmouth, Maine: The North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) Studio Band played a gig to a packed house at the North Star Cafe in Portland on Thursday, January 28. The Studio Band is an after school rock and contemporary music ensemble that plays on and off campus. Shows feature a collection of material including rock, funk, pop, poetry and folk music. The students play original material and covers of bands like Wilco, Black Sabbath, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Neil Young.
On February 12, the Studio Band will play a concert at Massabesic Middle School, and their final concert, entitled "Last Waltz," will take place on Friday, February 19 in conjunction with an Upper School art opening. On the 19th, the band will play at 7:00 p.m. in Safford Center in NYA's Curtis Building, 148 Main Street, Yarmouth.
At 8:00 p.m., there will be an intermission and gallery opening for the latest NYA art show in the Curtis Building. Current artworks by visual art students including drawings, prints, paintings and sculptures will be on display. Light refreshments will be served. This event is open to the public.
North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational day school serving students in grades 5 through 12. NYA is dedicated to fostering integrity, character and intellect in young adults.
