February 22, 2008, Yarmouth, Maine: Artist Renee Prescott will exhibit her work at North Yarmouth Academy's (NYA) Curtis Building, 148 Main Street, Yarmouth, March 14, 2008 – April 18, 2008 with an opening reception on March 14 from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The exhibit will be open during regular school hours, and the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served at the reception.
Prescott is also the Admission Assistant at NYA. She graduated from Maine College of Art in 1996, focusing on ceramics. "After graduation, I found that I did not have the motivation or ability to combine the two worlds of art and work," said Prescott. She just recently began pursuing art again. Prescott now creates paintings on wood panels, sometimes manipulating the piece three dimensionally as she did with clay. She uses a wood burning tool and various types of paints and glazes and is bold with her color choices.
"Working with wood is a new experience for me that stemmed from my desire to manipulate a material three dimensionally the way I had in the past with clay, but with a much quicker process and the ability to hang it like a painting," said Prescott. "I try to create a three dimensional feel by using a wood burning tool to make deep impressions in the wood. I use crackle paint in some of the paintings, which reminds me of the crackle glazes I used to use on my pots, and I also layer some colors and spend a lot of time varnishing to just the right glossiness for my taste, depending on the piece."
