December 17, 2007, Yarmouth, Maine: The North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) Library has enhanced its collection of books about Japan, Korea and China as a result of a grant from the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia (NCTA). In the summer of 2007, two NYA teachers, Lynn Sullivan (South Freeport) and Mary Beth Feldman (Bowdoin), participated in an NCTA seminar entitled "Views of the East: Teaching China, Japan, and Korea in Maine Schools." The seminar was funded by the Freeman Foundation and conducted by the World Affairs Council of Maine and the Maine Humanities Council. Participants in the seminar each received a $300.00 grant to purchase books, maps and other materials about East Asia for their schools. "This grant has allowed us to supplement our collection with book offerings on East Asia including literature, music, geography and history," explained NYA Librarian Jill O'Connor. The newly purchased books are now on display in the NYA library.
North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational day school serving students in grades 6 through 12. NYA is dedicated to fostering integrity, character and intellect in young adults.
