February 4, 2010, Yarmouth, Maine: North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) alumnus Dan Bartlett ('04, Portland), a senior hockey forward at Princeton University, has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award. The Hobey Baker Award is the highest honor and most prestigious award in Division I college hockey. The award measures a collegiate hockey player's strength of character, high levels of integrity, outstanding on-ice skills in all phases of the game, good sportsmanship as well as high academic achievement. It is given annually to the top National Collegiate Athletic Association men's ice hockey player and is named for hockey player and World War I veteran Hobey Baker, who played hockey at Princeton University.

Bartlett is a Molecular Biology major and has been named to the ECAC Division I All-American team for the past three years. He received the All Ivy Academic Award in 2009. While at NYA, he was a Maine Class A Ice Hockey All State Forward, a member of the Maine Class A Ice Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Team, the Maine Class A West Senior All-Star Ice Hockey Team, a Maine Sunday Telegram All-Star Hockey selection, and a Travis Roy Class A Boys Ice Hockey MVP Finalist. He received a New England Division II Preparatory League Honorable Mention, the Maine Principals' Association Award, and was The Forecaster 2003-2004 Winter Male Athlete of the Year for NYA.

Beginning now through March 7, hockey fans may vote online for a nominated player in Phase I of the award selection process. Phase II of fan voting begins on March 18 when the Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists are announced. Online fan voting accounts for one percent of the total ballot in each phase. The 2010 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 9, 2010 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championships in Detroit, MI.

Nominees are selected by hockey coaches at Division I NCAA schools, fan voting online, and a selection committee, which decides the eventual winner from the top ten. The selection committee is composed of print and electronic media, NHL scouts, the American Hockey Coaches Association (college hockey coaches), and an individual from USA Hockey.
